Rancho Santa Margarita Water District | Upper Chiquita Canyon Reservoir Project, Rancho Santa Margarita, Orange County
JMA, in support of Dudek, Inc., performed paleontological mitigation monitoring and assessments on a 27.4 acre 266 million gallon storage reservoir for the Santa Margarita Water District in Southern Orange County. JMA field paleontologists recovered over three hundred significant micro-fossil specimens during the one year-long project.
JMA field paleontologists monitored all ground disturbing activities during the course of the project, and conducted fine-mesh water screening of over 6,000 lbs. of bulk samples. All of the micro-faunal specimens were collected during the screen washing program using 20 and 30 mesh box screens. This effort is a significant paleontological contribution that has added to a greater understanding of the little known Sespe Formation.
